Abstract. The current state of hardware used in ophthalmology is observed, an avenue of development of small portable research and diagnostic tools is proposed. The particular instrument under consideration is hand slit lamp for rapid diagnostics of frontal and rear eye cameras. Results of detailed calculation of the first Russian hand slit lamp schematic performed in 2013 is presented.
