Abstract. Application of integrated criteria of efficiency in lasers development and exploitation is considered. Laser beam intensity in the far-field region is proposed as one of the criteria. Practical examples of laser system optimization with the use of this criterion of efficiency are presented: structural-parametric optimization of unstable resonator for a high-power gas-dynamic laser and choice of optimal operating conditions for a pulsed solid-state laser.
