Abstract. A physical-mathematical model of LED in TO-1 body is developed. The model parameters are geometric dimensions of LED crystal and body elements, refractive indexes and absorption coefficients of the body material and the crystal. Solution to the problem of light propagation includes taking account of reflection at the body base, cylindrical and spherical dome surfaces, of ray refraction at the surfaces, as well as of light absorption in the crystal and body material. Calculations of polar patterns on the base of the model are compared with experimental results for LED KIPD-21K.
Keywords: LED polar pattern, mathematical model, effectiveness of LED radiation.
