EYE AND LENS THROUGH THE PRISM OF MILLENNIUMS

Abstract.   A brief history of optical lens development is considered, starting from elementary device made of quartz and introduced into eye socket of sculpture of sovereign or sacred animal of archaic civilization, and up to modern adaptive liquid-crystal lens implanted in human eye for cataract treatment. Basic stages of lens development in the eras of archeological optics, reading stones manufacturing, and invention of spectacles are described.
