Abstract. On the bases of the analytical model of the laser-induced shock waves proposed by R. Fabbro et al., and the thermofluctuation theory of destruction of solids developed by S. N. Zhurkov, the mechanism of “wet” laser ablation of solids under a layer of liquid is studied. It is shown that ablated layer in the case of “wet” laser ablation may be three times as thick as for ablation in the air.
