Abstract. Relation between mechanical and electric characteristics is investigated with the aim of measuring of residual stress in metals after machining of various types. Experiments are carried out with the use of the electrocontact method as well as by nondestructive etching. The possibility is shown to determine residual stress in metal samples after machining from specific electrical resistance.
Keywords: residual stress, machining, surface layer quality, nondestructive control.
