Abstract. An investigation on efficiency of fractal compression methods as applied to microscopic images of blood cells is carried out. The efficiency estimation is performed on the base of minimal description length principle, which made it possible to merge particular criteria of compression ratio and data loss. Fractal representations for the images under consideration are shown to be less effective than other types of image compression.
Keywords: fractal compression, image compression, remote medicine, representational minimum description length.
