Abstract. A three-mirror scheme is proposed for measurement of optical losses of radiation in intracavity elements of ion lasers. Peculiarities of loss measurement in optical elements with the use of mirror of controlled reflectance and by calibrated loss method are considered. Results of ellipsometric measurements of variations in polarization properties of optical element during the surface finishing are compared with data obtained with the use of intracavity loss method.
