Abstract. The history of development of the BOKZ family of star trackers created at the Optical-Physical department of the Space Research Institute (IKI RAN) is briefly described. Further ways to improve the star trackers using CMOS and PLD are outlined. Various configurations of star trackers with external optical heads are presented. Integration of tri-axial angular velocity sensors based on the MEMS technology into the star trackers is justified.
