Abstract. Effects of the third technological platform of informatization on the role of information technologies in modern society are considered, the purpose of economic institutions of higher education in training of specialists in information education areas is discussed. The use of the terms "information technology" and "information and economic security" in the educational process in the University of Economic is legitimized.
