Abstract. Gaussian approximation method for determination of parameters of Doppler spectrum from wind coherent Doppler lidar data is described. The formulas for implementation of the method are given. Basic characteristics of the proposed method are determined with the use of mathematical modeling. Comparison with known methods of wind velocity estimation is carried out.
